Project Overview:
This historic bank building features a decorative façade constructed from Colorado sandstone. The comprehensive restoration preserved its historic character while incorporating modern technology and craftsmanship.
Sixty damaged stones were replaced with matching sandstone sourced from the same Colorado quarry that supplied the original material. The most ornate stones featured elaborate hand-carved details that required precise replication. Using advanced 3D scanning and CNC machining technology, craftsmen recreated these intricate carvings—some pieces requiring 7 to 10 days of nearly continuous machine operation to produce a single stone.
All exterior windows and doors were replaced or restored to their original specifications. The roof received new slate tiles in the original rose color and profile, sourced from the same Vermont quarry that provided the building’s first roof over a century ago.
The basement underwent a complete transformation from storage space to a museum featuring custom-designed exhibits. Throughout the building, modern fire alarm, security, electrical, and HVAC systems were discreetly installed to meet current safety and comfort standards.
